Pipeline failures in Nigeria have been linked to corrosion caused by old infrastructures. Petroleum pipelines are the most endorsed carriageway of the oil and gas products over competing means such as truck and rail for valid reasons such as being the safest, most convenient, economical, low theft/accident risk and cost-effective means available. These pipelines are susceptible to deteriorate in diverse, extreme climatic and soil conditions which affects their performance and reliability. It is well known that the corrosion resistance of materials can be improved by coating the pipeline to form a protective, dense and stable anti corrosion layer over the material. In order to investigate the influence of viscosity and coating thickness on anti-corrosion resistance of coated 5L X65 steel pipes, the pipes were coated with three produced metallic coatings, copper-metallic, chromium metallic and nickel metallic. Viscosity and ultrasonic thickness tests are performed to investigate the impact on the corrosion degree.

Erosion control blankets are typically biodegradable, open-weave blankets that provide temporary cover and support for establishing vegetation on bare soil areas. It provides cover for bare soil and support for emergent vegetation from the time of seeding until root density and top growth are capable of long-term erosion protection. It function by shielding bare soil and newly seeded areas against raindrop and wind erosion, providing a dense matrix of biodegradable material (e.g., straw, coconut) that stabilizes and supports emergent vegetation and later decomposes to further aid in plant growth. In this research we will use rice straw to make erosion control blanket which is environment friendly, readily available and cost effective too.

Erosion is a common phenomenon which occurs in open channel due to various parameters like fluid viscosity, velocity and head etc. Old concepts of sediment transportation does not give any relationship between amount of erosion and fluid flow. Change of fluid velocity is unpredictable and it makes flow pattern from one type to other. In open channel flow, soil mechanics and sediment transportation it is observed that between two dimensionless parameters a relationship exist which ultimately yield into a constant and give rise to a third non dimensional number.

Researchers across the country and around the world are trying to find solutions to fossil fuel problems so that there is enough fuel and a healthy environment to sustain human life and activities in the future. Researchers now a days are trying to find out a concrete solution to the present day problem. One solution to the use of fossil fuel is the massive use of biodiesel in place of fossil fuel. Biodiesel is a renewable, biodegradable fuel manufactured domestically from vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled restaurant grease. Biodiesel meets both the biomass-based diesel and overall advanced biofuel requirement. Blending of Jatropha oil with diesel increases engine efficiency, reduces knocking and engine emission.

:: 10.9790/1813-13075761

Camshaft is an engine component which regulates the opening and closing of engine valves. It is paramount to calculate the deformation produced in the camshaft as it bears the load of the exhaust gas pressure of the engine and at the same time it regulates the inlet of the fuel to the combustion chamber. The main issue is to identify the localized deformation produced in the cam shaft. If the deformation is not studied well then it causes serious issue in operating the engine. As different company uses different grade materials so it becomes important to determine the deformation produced in cam shaft. For the study we have taken materials used like billet steel, chilled cast iron, EN8D, EN24 etc. the FE analysis is done by the software like ANSYS, and the solid modeling of the camshaft with exact dimensions by Solidworks software.
